Artist Statement

Tyler Robertson

I have always been intrigued by sporting art.  There is a certain feeling of power behind the genre.  It is also a sprawling subject matter that lends itself really well to an artist.  Here I am focusing on thoroughbred racing.  The colors and time old tradition of the sport is something that I am passionate about. These paintings are done using acrylic and traditional house paint.  I love working on a large scale and using big brushes.  The smaller drawings are done with charcoal and pastel on toned paper. My approach is to be a fresh look at the world of horse racing.  The contemporary framing, use of gallery wrapped canvas and even plywood is done to enforce the idea that this is something new.
