Artist Statement

Sandy Kimura

Growing up in North Carolina and coming from a family of artists, I began oil painting at the age of five. After earning a college degree in graphic design, I worked as a graphic designer and later began a business in architectural rendering.

While living in Europe and having the opportunity to visit famous museums such as the Louvre in Paris and the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam, I was inspired to explore another facet of painting. Thus, began my plein air painting while visiting beautiful villages of Bavaria, Italy, Austria, Switzerland and France.

My plein air painting works are influenced by the ever-changing light, colors, textures, and my connection to nature. Each painting has its own story that can be experienced through the choice of colors and textures created by the pallet knife.
