Artist Statement

Ken Boatright

The challenge of creating visual art that is pleasing to the eye is important, but the greatest challenge, and my desire, is to create art that tells a story, evokes an emotion or helps the viewer recall a memory of a certain time or place. It is my hope, that in these ways, my paintings will in some way connect and communicate with the viewer.

I have always participated in the visual arts. As a child, I spent hours drawing and it was not until High School that I fell in love with painting. As an adult, I have studied painting under various artists, in structured classes and workshops. I continue to enjoy painting in different mediums and in a range of subject matter from landscapes, animals, aviation, portraits and still life. Most of my paintings are created in the studio and occasionally in Plein Air.

Since retiring as an Airline Captain with American Airlines, I have more time to paint. Like most endeavors in life, the joy of painting is in the journey. Every painting is a new adventure of learning with a constant striving to become better. It is my hope that my paintings will somehow connect with you and bring you some joy.
