Elizabeth Bizianes

Inspired by my mother's photo albums, I paint the small hours of life. I paint the women and men whom I admire and who shaped me throughout my life. Using these treasured photo albums I portray the unguarded state of daily life, the intimacy, familiarity, love and friendship and honor the quiet moments held within. 

My paintings convey the capricious nature of memory by merging literal figures and objects with abstraction in diverse states of resolution. The immediacy of acrylics allows me to paint quick, expressive brush marks, layered with gestural figures and fill my canvases with bright and luminous colors, to play with transparency, translucency and opacity, imbuing my canvases with vitality that celebrates living.
